WE'RE NOT JUST BUILDING CARS, WE'rE HELPING BUILD LIVES.
As part of the Lexus of Brisbane Group, Lexus of Brisbane each year supports a charity on behalf of our owners - which has been aptly named the Lexus Owners' Gift.
2020 Owner's Gift Recipient
We are pleased to announce the recipient of the 2020 Lexus Owners' Gift is The Queensland Brain Institute at the University of Queensland.
The Lexus Owners' Gift donated an electroporator, which will greatly benefit research in QBI’s Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Research (CJCADR). Currently, it is estimated that over 425,000 people are living with dementia in Australia with approximately 80,400 of those located in Queensland. The electroporator will be used to enable large molecules, such as DNA and some drugs, to move directly into living cells by using an electrical current to ‘push’ them through the cell membrane without damaging the cell. This process is used in laboratory research including as part of developing disease model systems that enable QBI to continue its study of dementia and to investigate possible treatments in cells and in animal models.
The faster progress is made in delivering research results the closer QBI will be to helping those who are living with this debilitating and incurable disease. CJCADR, led by Professor Jürgen Götz, has made a number of knowledge breakthrough's including his own discovery of a pioneering ultrasound technique that has promise as a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. This breakthrough discovery is now moving toward clinical trials, and is an example of the world-leading research at CJCADR and QBI.
This equipment also has a multitude of applications across other research areas within QBI including other brain disorders; motor neurone disease, stroke, depression and anxiety, Parkinson’s disease, and schizophrenia.
