Lexus has re-powered its highly successful RX line with a new all-alloy dual-VVT-i 3.5-litre Quad Cam V6 engine.
The new RX350 is rated the most powerful six-cylinder four-wheel drive in its class available in Australia. It is 18 per cent more powerful and has four per cent more torque than the single-VVT-i 3.3-litre RX330 it supersedes.
Despite its increased performance, RX350 has reduced its fuel consumption to an average of 11.2 litres/100km for combined city and freeway driving, also an impressive figure among its luxury peers.
Lexus RX350 also offers reduced emissions compared to RX330. Lexus revolutionised the luxury SUV sector when it launched the RX330, creating a firm benchmark in refinement, ride quality and user-friendly technology in the market.
The RX has been Lexus’ most successful model globally and, since its Australian launch in April 2003, RX330 has consistently ranked as one of the highest-selling luxury SUVs in Australia. Over time it has actually increased sales – with its only changes being flow-down technology from new Lexus models – such as Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) and Bluetooth technology – from the flagship LS430.
Despite new luxury entrants, RX330 last year doubled the medium luxury SUV market sector’s annual growth by capturing five per cent of the market. “To still be growing at a rate better than the market some three years after its introduction is impressive, but to double market sector growth this far into a model life is quite spectacular,” said Scott Grant, divisional manager, Lexus Australia, about the RX330.
The RX has also been consistently acclaimed by the industry since its launch. RX330 was awarded Australia’s Best Luxury Four Wheel Drive for three years running, and topped the Four Wheel Drive section of the NRMA Rear Visibility Index last year, in addition to a collection of international accolades. “Lexus RX330 has joined a rare group of vehicles that have won three Best Car victories back to back – which is testament to its intrinsic design, engineering and consumer appeal,” said Ernest Litera, Chief Judge, Australia’s Best Cars. The new powerful RX350 Sports Luxury also has a six-disc CD/DVD changer which allows DVDs to be played whilst the car is stationary. RX350 Sports has a recommended retail price of $74,800* and RX350 Sports Luxury has an RRP of $84,100*.
